Five killed in Pakistan factory explosion

Five people were killed and 30 others sustained serious injuries when a boiler exploded in a factory at Ghakhar Mandi near Gujranwala in eastern Pakistan. According to local reports, the roof of the factory caved in after the blast, which was responsible for most of the deaths and injuries. The injured were taken to District Headquarter Hospital Faisalabad.

The factory manager and owner have been arrested by the police. The police said that it could be an act of terrorism, adding that the actual cause of the blast would ascertained after thorough investigation.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said the provincial government announced financial assistance of Rs 500,000 each for the heirs of deceased labourers and Rs 100,000 for the injured.
