Explosions and fire kill one in Singapore industrial area

13 October 2015

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said a fire that broke out in a warehouse in the industrial area of Tanjong Kling in Jurong has killed one person and injured seven others. In a statement on October 13, the SCDF said one person was pronounced dead at the scene and seven others were conveyed to two local hospitals for injuries ranging from lacerations and burns to smoke inhalation.

Prior to the arrival of SCDF forces, local sources said a number of explosions were heard at the premises in 21 Tanjong Kling Road, believed to belong to a local gas manufacturing company.

The SCDF said by the time they arrived,  the fire had engulfed a 7m by 5m laboratory that was near a production and storage area. Four water jets were deployed to contain the fire within the laboratory. This prevented it from spreading to the nearby flammable cylinders storage area, the SCDF said.
