An explosion at the Sol Gas propane gas station in the Los Rios sector of Santo Domingo has claimed one life, according to local media reports. Stock image reported that residents had expressed concern about similar facilities across greater Santo Domingo, which often operate without complying with public safety regulations.

It said many of the gas plants operate less than 50 metres away from homes and businesses, and those living nearby consider them to be time bombs, capable of levelling entire neighbourhoods.
