One injured in South Carolina plant blast

11 April 2016

On April 8, an explosion at the Techtronic Industries plant in Anderson, South Carolina, injured one staff member. Anderson County Assistant Fire Chief Brian Moon told reporters the blast happened when a generator malfunctioned during testing and one person was airlifted to hospital after the incident.

Firefighters in attendance also evacuated the adjacent Ryobi Technologies plant. The explosion caused "major structural damage" to part of the roof and building, but there was little fire, Moon said.

Hong Kong-based Techtronic makes an array of power tools and equipment under various brand names, including Ryobi, Homelite, Milwaukee, Dirt Devil and Hoover, with 65% of its sales in North America.
