08 August 2016
A gas pipeline explosion in southern Iran has killed one person and injured three others, the IRNA press agency reported on August 6. The blast happened at a gas pressure boosting station in Shul village, near the town of Genaveh in the southern province of Bushehr, and was extinguished after five hours.
IRNA said that immediately after the blast, described as “huge”, the pipeline was disconnected from the rest of the network to limit the scale of the damage.
Abdolhamid Khedri, the province's representative in the Iranian parliament, ruled out sabotage as a possible cause of the incident.
