Australia electricity substation explosion injures two

Two men suffered burns after an explosion occurred at an electricity substation at Airds in south west Sydney. A Fire and Rescue spokesperson said that, on arrival, they found a large electricity distribution kiosk emitting smoke. One suffered severe burns to his face, chest and hands and was transported to the specialist burns unit at Royal North Shore Hospital while the second had minor burns.

Endeavour Energy confirmed that two of its electrical workers were receiving medical assistance after the workplace incident.

"Endeavour Energy has contacted the families of the injured employees to offer its assistance. Endeavour Energy has staff on site and will commence a full investigation into the incident," a spokesperson said, adding that the incident had been reported to SafeWork NSW.

Fire and Rescue remained at the location until the distribution box was considered safe.
