24 February 2017
A string of explosions in a Czech armaments factory has injured 19, with three in a critical condition, officials said on February 23. The Policske Strojirny plant near the town of Policka, some 150 kilometres east of Prague, processes old ammunition and in 2015 experienced an explosion of 320 tonnes of gunpowder which injured two workers.
Firefighters quoted by the Czech news agency CTK said the building hit by the explosions was isolated from the rest of the plant.
The regional rescue service said three people suffered serious injuries, mostly burns, and were in a critical condition. They were transported by helicopter to hospital. Four rescuers were also injured in the blasts.
