Axair Extends ATEX Ranges with Casals Ventilation

Axair Fans UK Limited distributes ATEX Category 2 Zone 1 metal centrifugal fans for indoor or sheltered outdoor installation. All products are manufactured by Spanish supplier partner Casals and are compliant with the standards contained in ATEX Directive, ATEX 2014-34 EU as updated in April 2016.

Axair’s ATEX industrial fans offer extends to a wide array of fans from Casals ventilation including the MBX, MBRX and MAX range. Casals ATEX fans driven by a variety of motor types, rated outputs and speeds. In general, Casals ATEX fans comply with ATEX code Ex II 2G IIB T4, which is for surface industries excluding mining. Installation is permitted in Category 2 Gas (Zone 1) areas where any Group IIA or IIB gas diluted in air may be present in normal operation.

The maximum motor surface temperature T4 (135°C) will prevent spontaneous combustion of all but a small number of highly volatile gasses in T5 and T6 temperature class. The fans can be installed where an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation occasionally.

Casals MBX range benefits from rolled steel sheet housing with aluminium forward curved impellers. A spark proof ring constructed of copper or aluminium also added to its ATEX compliancy. The MBX range from Casals, designed for general ventilation enclosed environments is suitable for ATEX zone 2 for gas or 22 for dust, with a working temperature up to 80 degrees Celsius. The Casals MBX 45/18 T4 11kw has a maximum flow rate of 14000m3/h. The MBX range consists of 26 models with specials available on request.

Casals MBRX range has reinforced high efficiency backward-curved impellers in scroll sheet steel housings with epoxy powder coat finishing and is ingress protected to IP55 with class F insulation. The MBRX line of industrial fans can handle the highest air flow rates, and high static pressures can be developed using 2pole motor speeds. The MBRX range is designed for, but not limited to, inline installation including industrial applications, clean and slightly dusty air transport, pneumatic transport and cooling of machine parts to ATEX zones 2 and 22. Hot dipped galvanised lines and fans for working temperatures up to 250 degrees with various orientations are available on request.

Electric motors may be selected as EEx-e (increased safety), which is a reduced cost option with non-sparking construction, or EEx-d (explosion proof) meaning that a flame caused by an explosion within the motor cannot escape to the surrounding atmosphere. Most fans equipped with EEx-d motors have pedestals on account of the motor weight. Contact us for more information.

Casals ATEX motors are IP55 ingress protected for indoor installation but could be installed outdoors with a ventilated weather shelter covering the motor. For optimum weather protection in ATEX Category 3 situations, and for the handling of corrosive fumes, the ideal choices are from Axair SA and STA ranges in semi-conducting moulded polypropylene.
