ABLE Instruments & Controls: measure; control; manage
04 October 2017
ABLE Instruments & Controls was founded to fill the void created by the rigid supply nature of instrumentation manufacturers and the lack of engineering and support capability exhibited by traditional representative organisations.

The experience of the company founder and CEO whilst working with both types of organisation and, more importantly, the frustration of customers when searching for bespoke solutions to their measurement requirements, lead directly to the formation of the company in 1985.
ABLE has built its success on these principles, realising the original concept of its foundation. We are now in our forth decade of operation and the ability and willingness to go the extra mile for our customers continues to drive our growth.
*To supply solutions, not just product.
To provide the optimum solution to measure the primary process variable whether using an “out of the box” instrument or a bespoke system design.
*To fully support our customers.
To ensure comprehensive engineering and support capability throughout the process and over the lifetime of the equipment.
*To bring value.
To provide high quality equipment and service, expertise and support combined with the best possible commercial solution.
Our goal is that our customers benefit from our experience, expertise and innovation.
The depth of instrumentation knowledge and our ability to apply a diverse range of technologies from our core competencies of level, flow, pressure, temperature, gas detection, liquid analysis and moisture measurement, has established ABLE as a leader in its field.
In short, being able to make your measurement is more than what we do, it’s who we are.
Latest Developments at ABLE
As part of the drive to better serve its customers, ABLE has constructed a state of the art training facility at their headquarters in Reading. The purpose built rig offers a truly unique process environment for high impact, hands-on training.
The facility consists of connected industrial stainless steel horizontal and vertical vessels, and ABLE, working together with leading manufacturers and suppliers, has fitted the rig with instrumentation ranging from the conventional to the very latest cutting edge measurement technologies for flow, level, pressure, temperature, density, gas and liquid analysis.
Reflecting the impartiality of ABLE’s status as the UK’s largest independent supplier, the rig incorporates over 100 process instruments, all providing real time data, offering a platform for customer equipment demonstration and a matchless showcase for our partner companies.
The entire process will be managed by a Rockwell PlantPAx Virtual Distributed Control System (DCS), mirroring process plant across the major industries, from the complexity of an offshore platform to the precision of a micro-brewery. The Rockwell PlantPAx system uses a common automation platform for seamless integration between all sectors of the rig. This modern DCS connects process, discrete, power, information, and safety control into one plant-wide infrastructure creating a seamless data flow across the rig to enable a connected enterprise. Multiple instrument control philosophies and sequencing routines have been configured and programmed. HMI screen builds are complete.
The rig is designed to offer a comprehensive range of dynamic training courses for all levels via a balance of class room based theoretical content and hands-on practical elements, covering multiple measurement disciplines.
The conference / classroom facilities incorporate multi-screen projection with wireless connectivity and a break out area for catering purposes.
