The explosion was believed to be caused by chemicals in use at the factory, according to a preliminary investigation.

The company involved, Feltex Automotive Trim is a leading supplier of automotive acoustic comfort and trim components. The company's automotive division comprises seven business units that supply products directly and indirectly to South African vehicle manufacturers, with its head office in Durban.
