Four injured in Vermont aerospace plant dust collector explosion

11 December 2017

An outdoor dust collector exploded at the UTC Aerospace Systems plant in Vergennes, Vermont, on December 8, injuring four workers inside the facility, emergency response officials told local news organisations. Four workers were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, with one of these treated for burns.

Vermont State Police identified an outdoor dust collector as the site of the explosion, according to local news reports, adding that the blast had also caused damage inside the adjacent building. A fire also had to be tackled, according to emergency responders, and the incident is under investigation.

UTC Aerospace Systems makes a wide range of aerospace and defence products. The Vergennes complex makes fire protection systems and fuel measurement and management systems, among other equipment. The company employs 41,000 people worldwide, including 775 in Vergennes.
