08 January 2018
A boiler explosion at a metal plant in Surampalli near Vijayawada in the southeast Indian state of Andhra Pradesh has killed four workers, with five more listed as critical with between 70% and 15% burns. Local police said the blast, at GS Alloys and Castings, was due to steam pressure build up in one of the plant’s boilers.
Officials said action would be taken against the management of the company for not following proper safety measures at the plant.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said compensation would be paid to the survivors and relatives of the deceased.
