A1. Moore Industries: STZ Functional Safety Dual-Input Smart HART Temperature Transmitter, with Associated IS Option
The newest member to the Moore Industries Associated Intrinsically-Safe (AIS) family of products is the SIL 2/3 capable STZ Functional Safety Dual Input Smart HART® DIN-style Temperature Transmitter with Associated IS sensor connections. The STZ is certified by exida to IEC61508 for systematic integrity up to SIL 3 and for single use in Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) up to SIL 2. The STZ is designed and developed in strict compliance with IEC 61508 standards to provide the highest level of system integrity and reliability.
The intrinsically-safe -AIS option for the STZ-DIN allows direct connection of sensors located in hazardous locations by including an embedded intrinsically-safe barrier in the front end of the STZ-DIN. The STZ-DIN -AIS is an associated apparatus suitable for mounting in Non-Hazardous or Class I, Division 2/Zone 2 hazardous locations with sensor input terminals connected to sensors or equipment in Class I, II, III, Division 1/Zone 0/1 hazardous locations. Installation costs are reduced if an associated apparatus (STZ-DIN with -AIS option) is used, since the associated apparatus includes the barrier in the receiving device. There is no need for the additional cost of the IS barrier, cabinet space, high integrity clean ground connection, separate power supply, or custom vendor backplanes.
The STZ-DIN configures quickly and easily to accept a single or dual input from a wide array of sensors and analog devices including RTDs, thermocouples, resistance and potentiometer devices, and direct millivolt inputs. This 2-wire (loop-powered) Associated IS transmitter provides an isolated and linear 4-20mA output proportional to the input. This signal is ready for direct interface with HART or non-HART based Safety System, DCS, PLC and other computer-based SCADA systems. The Universal mounting bracket easily snaps on and off of 35mm Top Hat DIN-rails and standard relay tracks.

A4. Ion Science: Cub personal VOC detector
World’s smallest, lightest, personal VOC detector!
Cub is a personal VOC detector with photoionisation detection (PID) technology for the fast, accurate detection of volatile organic compounds, keeping you safe within your working environment.
With market leading parts-per-billion (ppb) sensitivity, Cub sets the standard in personal gas monitoring giving an early warning of exposure to hazardous gases.
Comfortable and unobtrusive to wear, Cub sits within the breathing zone and is the smallest, lightest, personal VOC detector available. Cub has a dynamic range of 0 to 5000 ppm – the widest on the market – measuring 480 selectable compounds.
When worker exposure exceeds pre-set limits Cub’s audible, vibrating and flashing LED alarms alert you to the gases present. Readings are displayed on its bright, back-lit LCD display with selectable data logging time.
Cub’s patented photoionisation detection (PID) sensor technology has been independently verified as best performing for speed, accuracy and humidity resistant operation.
The PID sensor’s Fence Electrode utilises a humidity resistant and anti-contamination design providing extended run-time in the most challenging environments, giving you accurate results you can truly rely on.
One of many recent customers is the Port of Antwerp, which has equipped its employees with Ion Science Cub monitors
A spokesperson for the Port Authority said: “We take the health & safety of employees very seriously. With the high volume of petrochemical processing and handling in the port, we have been searching for a high quality yet cost effective PID instrument that would help protect staff from exposure to dangerous levels of VOCs.
“Every employee of the Port Authority working in the port area now wears a Cub personal PID that will give an early warning of the presence of hazardous vapours or gases. Initially approached by Ion Science’s distributor, Euro Index, we chose the Cub for its small and unobtrusive design. Plus it seemed to be the only instrument on the market that was compact enough to be worn comfortably as a personal safety device.”
A5. Petrotechnics: Proscient
Petrotechnics’ Proscient makes it possible to see and manage risk across the organisation. Displayed in an interactive, dynamic barrier management model, Proscient provides a simple, elegant means to connect process safety and risk control system performance to frontline operations. It brings all activity and risk into a single system, providing operators with a new way to collectively manage risk across the operation. Now operators can know, with confidence, what’s happening, where it’s happening and what’s driving the risk – at any point in time.
• Make risk exposure visible, prominent, available in real-time
• Connect risk to the reality of the plant in a practical, routine way for all
• Make HSE performance an integral component to production and sustainability
A Petrotechnics client recognised a gap between the risk understood on its facility and that shared with senior leadership. The operator has begun to leverage Proscient to transform its approach to operational risk management by making risk visible, prominent, and available for all, in real-time.
For this operator, once disparate, complex risk data arising from activities, energy isolations, temporary defeats and deviations, such as management of change, is aggregated and displayed in an interactive, dynamic process safety barrier management model. This simple, elegant approach connects process safety and risk control system performance to frontline operations at any point in time. It's practical, routine and offers context for work plans, while taking into account strategic risk management objectives.
The ability to see ongoing and planned activities next to deviations and impairments is something new and of immense value for this operator. Now, they use real-time insights to make planning decisions that proactively minimise risk in the forward schedule. This has provided tangible benefits in two areas.
First, the company has elevated its awareness of major accident hazard risk exposure across the organization and has connected risk potential to frontline operations. Now, HSE performance is an integral component to production and sustainability.
Visibility is the second area of benefit. With Proscient, the client was able to see they were actually using a higher level of control than they needed on work activities. This drove down efficiency unnecessarily. Now new conversations around process safety risk are taking place between senior and plant management.
The enterprise platform provides anyone in the organisation with a sense of where the biggest safety concerns are on the plant. The tool has armed the client with information and context to have the right conversations about safety and productivity, at the right levels.
