DSEAR / ATEX consultancy from Inglewood

11 May 2018

Inglewood Engineering Consultancy (IEC) are leading industry experts in the fields of hazardous area compliance, electrical compliance and project management of electrical, instrument and control design applications and solutions.

Our compliance services include all aspects of Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmosphere Regulations (DSEAR) compliance, Electricity at Work Regulations (EAWR) compliance and BS 7671 Electrical Inspection and Testing.

Our design and project management services cover safe area and hazardous area instrument and control design applications, control panel design, electrical distribution design and install, and building services design.

We can offer you a total consultancy service with regard to DSEAR and FUNCTIONAL SAFETY, and the service is designed to help clients get to a state of full and demonstrable compliance based on the highest current safety standards and then continue to maintain those standards.

We work with you on project design, at commissioning, and to support your maintenance departments. We are not installation engineers or equipment suppliers.

We work extensively in gases, oil, petroleum, solvents and dusts hazardous areas, completing audits and inspections and addressing all sources of ignition in these areas, both electrical and non-electrical. We assist the client in specifying design and remedial solutions where issues of non-compliance arise.

In general terms our background is control electrical engineering consultancy and we work in chemicals and pharmaceutical manufacturing, in the food industry, for the oil majors, for the power station groups, for general and metals manufacturing, the insurance industry and so on.

With respect to DSEAR, we see the ‘process’ which gets a site to full and demonstrable compliance as being:-

  • Site Audit / GAP Analysis
  • Area Classification Assessment & Zoning
  • Area Classification Drawings
  • Initial & Periodic Inspections to IEC 60079 Part 17
  • Corrective action prioritisation
  • Remedial design
  • Intrinsically Safe System support
  • On-Line Explosion Protection Document - EPD

We offer you expert support through all phases of the FUNCTIONAL SAFETY life cycle. We have competency to the level of TÜV accredited Functional Safety Engineer within our team and we assist in meeting IEC 61508 / 61511 standards. Where safety instrumented systems are required to meet the risk reduction objectives, we have the expert Compliance and Design Engineering skills to offer support for these phases of the process.

We have been established for over 34 years working in these areas. Our staffing includes chartered electrical and ‘competent’ Comp’Ex (dust and solvent) engineers and other professionally qualified staff. Professional qualifications are developed through in house training and mentoring before we consider an engineer to be a ‘competent practitioner’ in respect of the regulations.
