Ex-Forklifts do an impressive job in the clean room
21 May 2018
The requirements regarding mandatory particle levels in the ambient air of clean rooms are particularly stringent, and meticulous control of these parameters is vital, for example, in the pharmaceutical industry, in R&D departments, in the sterile production of food and medicines as well as in the Nano technology sector.
Noncompliance can lead to inaccurate measurements, contamination of batches of products and extensive compensation claims. With this in mind an internationally renowned Bavarian pharmaceutical company acquired two electric Ex-protected pedestrian power pallet trucks from Sichelschmidt Material Handling at the beginning of 2018, which were specifically designed for handling products in clean room applications.
Continuous particle measurement is carried out in clean room operation to determine the prescribed classification. The operational location of the new trucks corresponds to the ISO clean room classes 7 or 8. As the two d416 ASM RR models are identical and are required for interchangeable and universal operation on site, they were both built and delivered ex works by Sichelschmidt to be fully compliant with ISO 7.
The basic model belongs to the d400 GMP product series, which was designed for the storage and retrieval and lifting and transportation of pallets weighing up to 1,600kg. Both trucks, tailor made to customer specification, are characterized by the use of isopropanol resistant paint and special plastic components, which guarantee not only long life operation but also minimum maintenance costs. Smooth, dirt repellent and easy to clean surfaces make for easy everyday use of these machines.
Both models feature a closed loop hydraulic system as well as a closed simplex mast, which prevent any contamination of the working environment. All stainless steel parts were constructed from material grade 1.4571 which offers a high level of resistance against corrosion and pitting, making it ideal for use in the chemical and pharmaceutical sectors. This is particularly relevant for the forks and fork carriage with a maximum roughness depth of <1,2 µm and the surrounding stainless steel bumper bars, which offer effective protection of the chassis. Both Euro pallets and clean room pallets with particularly smooth surfaces can be safely and efficiently handled with the d416 ASM RR.
Sichelschmidt’s d400 series has been a tried and tested solution for decades in a variety of industry sectors and has undergone continuous development since it was introduced onto the market. More than 8,000 units of these robust trucks have been sold to date worldwide.
