Seven injured in West Texas pipeline explosions

02 August 2018

The Midland Police Department said seven people were taken to hospital with critical injuries, four with burns, after a series of explosions in gas pipelines 30 kilometres southeast of the West Texas town. Two firefighters are among the victims of the explosions, which emanated from three separate gas pipelines, and five pipeline company employees.

Police said a failure in one pipeline caused a large blast, which was followed by two smaller explosions in pipelines nearby. Fire Department personnel are allowing the remaining gas present to burn off.

First responders have been focused on shutting off pressure and flow to the pipelines at the site.

Local media quoted a Midland city official saying on August 1 that there was no danger to the general public.
