Award winner provides physical layer for fieldbus solution

Co-operation between Yokogawa and Pepperl+Fuchs has resulted in a solution for managing the physical layer of Foundation fieldbus H1, released last month as a diagnostic solution for Yokogawa’s Plant Resource Manager (PRM). The Advanced Diagnostics Module (ADM) was a winner at this year’s HazardEx International Awards.
When integrated into the PRM version, users are able to access a consolidated supervisory window, enabling them to view summary information on individual segments that provides details on each connected field device, enabling efficient root-cause analysis in real-time.
In addition to supporting the use of powerful tools such as oscilloscopes and data historians, ADM's commissioning wizard can reduce the amount of time required for the critical plant start-up phase by up to 80%.
Online monitoring capabilities within ADM indicate changes in the fieldbus physical layer before they become critical. The information can be displayed on the operator stations of production control systems, helping operators make decisions by providing useful information on the health of their fieldbus segments.
