Delaware refinery explosion injures three

31 October 2018

An explosion due to an equipment failure at PBF Energy's Delaware City, Delaware, injured three people on October 29, a report by Delaware Online said. During equipment maintenance, there was a minor explosion and three men were burned, the report said, quoting a state fire marshal. The report also said there was no fire and no major damage to equipment at the facility.

One man was in critical condition, another had serious burns to his face and the third had burns to his feet and was in a stable condition, local media said.

A spokeswoman for the Delaware City Refining Company said the men were contractors. The refinery disputes that there was an explosion, but did not explain how the men were injured.

The Delaware City refinery has a capacity of 182,200 barrels-per-day.
