China chemical plant blasts kill twelve

An explosion at a chemical fertiliser plant in Xinle city in North China's Hebei Province left six dead and seven injured on November 7. A gas furnace at the Hebei Jinwantai Chemical Fertilizer LLC exploded at about 3:10 p.m., according to a statement on Weibo by the local information office.

Of the survivors, two are seriously injured and five slightly wounded. All were hospitalised after the incident.

This was followed on November 12 by an explosion at Huifeng Carbon Plant in Kongcun Township of Pingyin County, Shandong Province, which killed five and injured a further six.

Xinhua says investigations into the cause of both these incidents are currently under way.
