CompEx, part of the JTL Group has been awarded the APEA Milestone Award at the recent APEA - Association for Petroleum & Explosives Administration - Awards. The Award was sponsored by Meridian Electrical for celebrating 25 years of increasing safety in explosive atmosphere workplaces through the utilisation of CompEx core competency validation courses for staff and sub-contractors.

Martin Jones - CompEx Operations Manager – commented: “We are delighted to have been awarded this prestigious award… and the recognition this award brings for both the CompEx Scheme and it's hard working team of professional engineers, certification management and staff.”

CompEx celebrated its 25th anniversary during 2018 and has had a huge impact on improving safety in the workplace during that time. The CompEx Scheme is the recognised global scheme for the protection of oil, gas and chemical workers in both offshore and onshore activities. The scheme assesses the competency of employees and contract staff who are working in environments with the potential risk of explosive atmospheres.

It’s a scheme developed by industry for industry and has grown both the module offerings from the original Gas & Vapour Course to include Foundation, Dust, Fuel Forecourts, Water, Mechanical, Application Design and Responsible Persons Courses as well as expanding globally to 60 centres, with over 80,000 candidates certified worldwide.

Accredited by UKAS to IEC/ISO 17024:2012, the whole concept is to raise awareness of safe working practices in explosive atmospheres and ensuring that staff and contractors are competent to undertake the tasks they are requested to do.
