Trolex releases intelligent strata monitoring system – Rockmonitor XR

19 December 2018

Trolex, a Manchester-based provider of workplace safety technology solutions to the mining, industrial and tunnelling sectors announces the release of RockMonitor XR. An intelligent, automated and highly accurate line of strata monitoring products to increase safety, efficiency and productivity in the mining industry.

The RockMonitor XR – a combination of the RockMonitor XR Telltale, the RockMonitor XR Controller, and the RockMonitor XR Reader – provides real-time, precise readings with a unique address so controllers can get a clear system-wide picture of what is happening in the strata in the mine.

New features include increased usability with a plug and play installation system to add intelligent remote monitoring for pre-existing real-time strata control monitoring.

The RockMonitor XR also boasts a significant improvement in accuracy, with the telltale systems now able to monitor roof displacements in real-time and confirm the stability of mine tunnels at an accuracy of +\- 0.2mm.

Glyn Jones, Group CEO of Trolex, said: “With around a third of all accidents and fatalities in underground mines occuring as a result of rock fall, businesses need highly accurate, comprehensive, and real-time information on the condition of strata. Manual strata monitoring hasn’t done enough to solve the problem, often providing outdated, inaccurate data. This outdated process is much less likely to flag danger to workers in good time, creating significant risk to employees and businesses.”

The release of RockMonitor XR comes as an independent study of a mine in Australia revealed that replacing traditional manual strata monitoring systems with intelligent remote monitoring and real-time information delivered significant benefits:
•  Reduction of Injury and incident reports by 65%
•  Increase in uptime by 25% as a result of fewer incidents
•  Increase in productivity by 40%
•  Cost savings of around 50% as a result of deploying standing support only when required
•  $1.75m savings/efficiency improvements in just one year

Jones continues, “Adding the RockMonitor XR strata monitoring products to the existing Trolex safety technology solutions provides safety managers and mine operators with a complete, accurate and real-time picture of the safety of mine operations. This intelligent way of working will lead to reduced health and safety incidents, improved up-time, raised production levels, reduced collateral costs and proven ROI within just a few months of implementation.”
