German village festival explosion kills one, injures 14

One woman died from severe burns sustained during a frying pan explosion that also injured 14 at a village festival in Freudenberg, western Germany, on September 7. Five people are in a critical condition, four from burns and one who suffered a heart attack, according to local police.

Police told German news agency dpa that rain dripping into a big frying pan full of oil could have caused the blast at the local Backesfest festival, where around 100 people were in attendance, but no firm conclusions will be drawn until an investigation has taken place.
