IoT enabled hard hat provides real-time situational awareness

29 January 2020

Detroit-based Guardhat develops wearables, infrastructure and software platforms to provide a safer and more productive work environment for frontline industrial workers in heavy manufacturing industries. Founded in October 2014 by industry veterans and a former steel & mining CEO, Guardhat's aim is to modernise safety and enhance last mile connectivity in the industrial workplace.

Guardhat modernises traditional workplace safety equipment – like the hard hat – by adding an IoT component. The Guardhat system actively monitors a user's location, pulse, body temperature and environment; and provides real-time alerts to both the user and their supervisor in the event of a fall, exposure to toxic gases, lockout zones and proximity to moving equipment.

Guardhat collaborates with IBM Watson IoT and integrates its KYRA IoT platform with the IBM Maximo Worker Insights solution to provide near real-time situational awareness using smart personal protection equipment (PPE).
