HIPPS is a hit at ONS Norway

05 November 2008

Demonstration of their single source HIPPS solution at the Offshore Northern Seas (ONS) exhibition held in Stavanger in Norway has led to high levels of enquiries for Hima-Sella and Bel Valves. With 28 nations represented by exhibitors, attendance broke previous records with some 41,000 visitors during the four-day event.

Systems integration specialist Hima-Sella and specialist valve manufacturer Bel Valves teamed up to exhibit their complete High Integrity Pressure Protection System (HIPPS) solution for the oil and gas industry at ONS. The one-stop-shop approach to HIPPS - being able to purchase a complete HIPPS solution from a single source was a big hit with ONS visitors.

Hima-Sella Sales Manager, Andy Tonge commented, "Interest in our HIPPS solution exceeded our expectations by about 4 to 1. We've had some serious enquiries since returning from Norway. We know the interest we've had is as a direct result of demonstrating the kit on the stand and having our technical experts there to discuss our HIPPS solution in detail.

Tonge added, "We congratulate the ONS organisers for what we consider to be the best ONS exhibition so far. Our thanks also go to the EIC UK whose assistance was invaluable".

Hima-Sella and Bel Valves have proven technology and tried and tested products, offering a complete 'drop in' safety solution that is flexible, reliable, easy to install and commission. The complete HIPPS loop includes - pressure transmitters, failsafe solid-state logic solver, hydraulically and pneumatically operated actuators and gate or ball valves. The scope also includes a SIL3 probability failure on demand report (PFD) and failure rates (FTD), to confirm that the system meets Safety Integrity Level 3 (SIL3) and the requirements of IEC 61508. If required, Hima-Sella can also provide an independent SIL3 report.

Compared to traditional emergency shutdown and process systems, a HIPPS can be designed to operate with a higher level of system integrity and being independently instrumented, offers the ultimate in system protection. It's also an ideal asset protective solution where pressure relief devices are impractical and there are environmental constraints.
