Egyptian refinery hit by explosion and fire

19 April 2012

The Nasr Petroleum Company’s refinery at Suez suffered a large explosion and fire on April 14. Four people were killed and 22 others injured at an oil storage tank farm on the refinery site.
It is not known what initially caused the fire. Xinhua said that some workers at the refinery reported that they saw a car burning shortly before the explosion of the first butane tank.

The Egyptian government owns the refinery through its Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC).

On April 17, Ahram Online said a series of explosions continued over the following three days, with further tanks succumbing to the fire.
