Large fire at UK engineering plant near Coventry Airport
13 August 2012
Twelve people were inside the Ney Ltd woodwork engineering factory in Middlemarch Business Park near Coventry Airport when it caught fire on August 9, but there were no reports of injuries. Almost 100 firefighters tackled the blaze at its height with the column of smoke visible for miles, although the airport operated normally throughout.
A 400m exclusion zone, set up as a precautionary measure because of the presence of acetylene cylinders inside the factory, was later reduced.
Residents living nearby were advised to keep their windows and doors closed as a precaution.
Millions of pounds’ worth of stock was lost in the fire, and an employee of the company has been charged with arson.
