Here is a welcome message from Mr Mohammed A. Sahoo Al Suwaidi - Director, Gas Directorate, ADNOC - Chairman, ADIPEC 2013.
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to ADIPEC 2013, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Abu Dhabi.
We are proud that ADIPEC will be held annually from this year forward, cementing its position as a central industry platform for our region and a key event on the international energy calendar. ‘Energy for all in a changing world’ will be the theme of this year’s event, reflecting not only the growing demand for energy by our people, industries and society, but also the need to diversify the composition of those sources of energy. All facets of the region’s energy portfolio, from gas and oil to nuclear, solar and renewables, will be in the mix at ADIPEC.
I must also recognise the many individuals and organisations that contribute to ADIPEC’s success. I would like to extend my appreciation to HE Suhail Mohammed Al Mazrouei, UAE Minister of Energy, and his team at the Ministry of Energy and also to HE Abdullah Nasser AlSuwaidi, Director General Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC). To the government and city of Abu Dhabi, which provide world-class facilities for the event and a warm Arabian welcome to its visitors, speakers, exhibitors and delegates. To the executive committee, composed of respected senior leaders from our region, who have given their precious time and experience to help shape the event. To ADNOC Group, whose leadership, companies and people have always provided tremendous support. And, of course, to the countless speakers, technical committees, judges, exhibitors, venue staff and suppliers. I thank you all for your time, energy and passion.
This is an exciting time for gas and oil in the Middle East. The region’s thirst for energy has never been higher, driving new projects and innovations aimed at increasing production safely and efficiently. The resulting growth and complexity requires further investment in science, technology and people. The opportunities are immense, but only collectively will we capitalise on them.
ADIPEC helps shape the future of our industry by providing a platform for this collaboration, bringing us all together to share our knowledge and ideas, and to forge partnerships and friendships. The return of the Middle East Petroleum Club certainly supports these lofty ambitions. The ADIPEC Awards also plays a key role by recognising the outstanding people, projects and achievements of the past year.
New award categories for women and young engineers have been added, reflecting their ever-growing importance to the success of our evolving industry.
With more than 300 entries received to date, the awards gala promises to be a memorable night for all. ADIPEC 2013 is set to continue the event’s strong tradition of delivering great conference programmes. The technical programme is the largest in the history of the event, featuring more than 53 sessions and 256 speakers from around the globe. The 2013 event will also feature a new two-day business conference for energy ministers, global CEOs and industry thought leaders, as well as two technical tours open to delegates on Saturday November 9. Places are limited, so I urge you to register your interest early.
We all recognise the need to recruit greater numbers of talented youth to our industry, so I am pleased the Young ADIPEC Programme will invite more than 200 schoolchildren to take part in this year’s event. They represent the future of our industry, so we must make it a priority to welcome them; engage them through our knowledge and passion, and lay the foundation for their careers in oil and gas.
Finally, I must note that the exhibition has attracted more than 1,500 companies from 50 countries, and will once again fill the entire ADNEC facility to capacity. Covering fifteen country pavilions, the very latest technologies, products and services from leading suppliers the world over will be on display.
We look forward to welcoming you to ADIPEC 2013 this November, as we usher in a new era for this unique annual gas and oil event.
