Three injured in Indian Oil Corporation tank farm blast

28 February 2050

Three labourers were seriously injured following a blast in a tank farm of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) at Vadinar in Khambhalia taluka of Dwarka on February 27. The blast resulted in a fire that was doused in about 20 minutes. The injured men were sent to the civil hospital in Jamnagar.

"There are minor injuries to three contract labourers," corporate communications officer Anirban Dasgupta of Western Region Pipelines (WRPL), a division of Indian Oil Corporation, said.

An IOC official said, "The cause of the accident was a welding operation being carried out for a routine repair job." It is believed that the sparks emanating during the welding caused the fire.
