Fatal blast reported at Tennessee ammunition factory
17 April 2014
One person was killed and three injured in an explosion at the Accurate Energetic Systems plant near McEwen, Tennessee. One man is in critical condition, while two others remain in stable condition, Vanderbilt University Medical Center spokesman Craig Boerner said.
The blast "pretty much destroyed the building", said Odell Poyner, director of the Humphreys County Emergency Management Agency. Ten to 12 people were at the building when the explosion occurred, Poyner said.
The building is operated by Rio Ammunition, which makes different types of ammunition for hunting, law enforcement and the military.
Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the explosion, Poyner said.
