Six injured in Tennessee steel plant blast

Knoxville Fire Department Captain D.J. Corcoran told local media outlets on May 15 that six workers were injured, one critically, in an explosion at the Gerdau Ameristeel Mill in north Knoxville, Tennessee. He said the blast occurred in a part of the plant with a furnace.

Local media said the explosion was heard across the north of the city, and a column of thick black smoke rose from the plant.

Investigators have arrived to try and determine the cause of the blast.
