Chinese soldiers killed in ammunition dump explosion

An accidental explosion at an ammunition storage facility in a rural township on the outskirts of the city of Hengyang, Hunan province, killed up to 17 soldiers while they were stacking shells, Chinese state media said on June 18. The blast took place on June 17 and its cause was under investigation, the official Xinhua News Agency said.
With 2.3 million members, China’s military is the world’s largest. It has received significant in recent years but conditions for many of its bases and facilities remain basic and oversight is often lax.
