Kansas refinery fire injures four
29 July 2014
A fire at a Coffeyville, Kansas oil refinery resulted in four employees sustaining varying degrees of burns, and all were taken to hospital for treatment. One of the injured is said to be in a serious condition.
According to firefighters, the 115,000-barrel-per-day CVR Energy-owned refinery caught fire just before 12:30 a.m. in the ISOM area of the refinery and was extinguished within an hour. There was, apparently, no explosion.
Local sources said that CVR employees were working on a pump when it caught fire and flames engulfed the area. The cause of the fire remains unknown but an investigation will continue throughout the day.
