Texas oil rig explosion injures five

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, an explosion at an oil rig east of Cotulla in southern Texas resulted in five employees being airlifted to hospital with burn injuries. The TDPS report says the drillers hit a gas pocket which came to the surface and exploded, according to KGNS.tv.
Cotulla is the county seat of La Salle County which has sits atop the oil-rich Eagle Ford Shale and has seen a boom in oil fracking activities in recent years. The town’s population doubled to 7,000 between 2000 and 2014.
