07 November 2014

One worker was killed and another was missing after an accident at an offshore oil and gas platform in the Caspian Sea off Azerbaijan, Azeri state energy company SOCAR said on November 6. Three workers were rescued, one was killed , and one is still missing. SOCAR said that eight vessels were searching for the missing worker.

This is the second incident with a fatal outcome on a SOCAR-run platform in less than a month. On October 24, it was announced that four workers were killed in an accident which involved an explosion on an offshore platform in the Caspian Sea.

Commissions have been created to investigate both accidents.
