ecom launches first 4G ATEX Zone 1 smartphone
17 November 2014
ecom instruments has announced the launch of a ninth generation Zone 1/21 mobile phone with both ATEX and IECEx certification. The Smart-Ex 01 is an ultra-rugged smartphone and is the first to run the latest Android 4.4 Kit Kat operating system. You can now scan an RFID tag, capture inspection data, communicate with colleagues and take a high quality picture of a defect using just one device.
ecom is the hazardous area world leader in driving efficiency and safety though the use of mobile computers. The Smart-Ex 01 puts work orders, permits, historical photographs and CMMS data in the palm of your hand. ecom understands the challenges faced in modern day hazardous areas and guarantees the Smart-Ex 01 will make your life easier, more efficient and safer.
The Smart-Ex 01 is the ideal companion for mobile workers who need to contact people while they are in Zone 1, Zone 2 or other hazardous areas due to its exceptional 4G LTE connectivity. This industry-leading capability allows engineers to contact, send pictures to or video conference anyone worldwide while they are standing in a hazardous area carrying out an inspection or investigating a defect.
This new way of working in hazardous areas enables workers to streamline their operations and significantly improve their decision-making process with data that has been captured and uploaded to a system at the point of inspection. It also allows for workers who are in separate locations to collaborate, enabling more effective ways of working and reducing risk, time and cost. The Smart-Ex 01 is designed to be used for a range of applications, including operator rounds, asset and material tracking, condition monitoring, permit to work and lone worker protection.
The IP68 Smart-Ex 01 is ultra-rugged and reliable with a scratch resistant Gorilla Glass 2 display, meaning that the device excels in the harshest of environments. The display is extremely bright and is fully readable in direct sunlight, as well as being usable while wearing gloves and when the screen is wet. The optional built-in camera (8MP rear and 1MP front) enables users to photograph problems they find while on site and clearly communicate those issues with a control centre. This, therefore, makes any potential defects immediately visible to a specialist who can help diagnose the issues and advise any follow-up actions.
With the Smart-Ex 01, you can rely on ecom’s commitment to providing high-quality and ultra-rugged devices, as well as excellent customer service. At ecom, we have a wide range of leading software partners who can provide solutions designed to maximise workers’ potential while using the Smart-Ex 01 smartphone in hazardous areas.
