Two dead and three injured after Oklahoma wellhead blast

19 December 2014

Local media said two people died of injuries suffered during an explosion and fire at an oil rig near Colgate, Oklahoma, some 100 miles southeast of Oklahoma City. Another three workers are reported to be injured in the December 18 incident and the Oklahoma Fire Marshal’s office and the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating the cause of the explosion.

Two of the injured workers are in critical condition at Baptist Burn Center in Oklahoma City, and the third suffered burns on both hands.

The Oklahoman reported that all five men worked for Dan D Drilling, a Lamont-based drilling contractor active in Oklahoma, Kansas and the Texas Panhandle. The rig was reportedly owned by the Amarillo, Texas-based company Pablo Energy.
