Explosion kills one at French dairy products manufacturer

25 March 2015

One person has been killed and three injured following the explosion of a machine at the Senagral dairy plant at Jouy in central France. "During routine preventive maintenance work on a packaging machine, an explosion occurred, seemingly of a disinfectant cylinder on the machine, which led to the death of a maintenance worker," the company said in a statement.

Of the three other staff members injured in the incident, two are seriously wounded, although not with life-threatening injuries.

An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident, and a charge of manslaughter has been lodged by the public prosecutor.

Senagral makes dairy-based desserts and is a subsidiary of French co-operative Agrial.
