Canada coal mine explosion injures three

An explosion at a coal mine near Elkford, British Columbia, has sent three people to hospital with severe burn injuries.The blast happened on April 5 at the Greenhills Mine, operated by Teck Resources. Local sources said it originated in the mine’s pulverizing room, which was unoccupied at the time, with the injured standing outside. Their injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Teck Resources said in a statement that “appropriate regulatory authorities have been notified” and an internal investigation launched to find out what went wrong. B.C.’s chief mines inspector also confirmed it would be investigating the incident.
