CENTREXPERT: French Ex design specialist

07 May 2015

ATEX is a niche market which is of little interest to the builders of standard machines and
equipment because of the limited quantities of ATEX equipment produced, the diversity of products, and the responsibilities resulting from these modifications which require real expertise. Consequently, manufacturers as well as engineers  prefer to sub-contract ATEX work to the specialists, author

All ATEX conversions are carried out using risk analysis followed by risk assessment which lists the machine’s critical ATEX features and governs the choice of the protective methods to be used.

These choices result in different work methods in terms of commitments, maintenance and costs, even if the conversions on the market seem to be identical in their appearance and documentation.

To offset these differences and identify the resulting responsibilities the European Commission
issued a recent reminder to the effect that for the purpose of obtaining certification it must be
shown that the conversion of the machine or equipment is in accordance with all the relevant
directives, of which ATEX appears the most complex.

In order to take advantage of the manufacturers’ technical information, CENTREXPERT has formed partnerships with companies such as LINDE MATERIAL HANDLING, with the aim of modifying their equipment without harming the original certificate of origin.

CENTREXPERT has also designed a wireless system named CENTREX to detect gas and combustible vapours using a naturally encrypted protocol (ZigBee©) guided by an Android tablet. The detector head (standard soda can size) is one of the sensors, with the distinctive feature that it is energy and test autonomous.

The whole system is certified for gas detection by INERIS, and has ATEX Category 3G certification by INERIS, soon to be 2G (including the tablet). Many sensors can be added (pressure, speed, temp., aso.), all ZigBee and communicating with an ATEX-certified tactile pad. The Machine or Equipment is driven by a gas detection signal coming from the detector head or from other sensors.

DANGER is a STATE, HAZARD is its MEASUREMENT! Measure the HAZARD and reduce the DANGER with the CENTREX system, the intelligent ATEX Safety solution for the 21st Century.
