ANSMANN – re-charging your batteries

08 June 2015

Any new project will need to be powered, whether by mains or battery.  The chemistry you choose will depend greatly on a number of factors, including the size and weight of a battery pack, but also the cost.

With portable equipment the main sources of power come in several different chemistry options: Lead-AcidNiMHLithium rechargeable or even Alkaline batteries.

Once you have decided on the type of power you will need you then need a supplier who can offer advice and guidance on the various options.  It may be that there are two different types of battery pack that will work in your project.  With qualified specialists and modern production facilities, including ESD areas, ANSMANN offers battery pack manufacturing at its German and China premises.  But that is not all they offer.  With the exception of Alkaline battery packs, a battery charger will be a necessary part of the project.

Battery chargers

There is a suitable battery charger for every application and ANSMANN battery chargers have sophisticated charging technology with automatic battery full cut-off and charging indicator.  They are easy to operate and prevent overcharging of your batteries.  With so many different battery packs ANSMANN offer customer specific charging solutions, even with your own logo on, depending on quantities.

If they do not have a standard battery charger to suit it may be possible, with a small adjustment, to modify an existing standard charger to suit your needs.  This keeps the price keen and offers a quick and reliable solution, without the time and expense of development.  However, if you are looking for quantities and solutions for various countries ANSMANN offer solutions here too.  They have been supplying battery charging solutions to companies with offices in many different countries and thrive on a new challenge.

Approvals and testing

All ANSMANN products are CE compliant.  The standard battery chargers are usually available with other international approvals already in place.  However, for customised solutions, other country approvals can be obtained.

The testing facilities at ANSMANN allow for testing of battery packs for transportation to UN 38.3.  Six different test procedures simulate different and dangerous situations that may occur during transportation.  Using state of the art equipment the packs are pushed to their very limit.  The results are recorded electronically and a certificate is produced on successful completion.  Power supplies and battery chargers are X-rayed at the RoHS test station to identify hazardous materials, such as heavy metals in devices and components.

Electromagnetic compatibility testing is also carried out using EMC test equipment.  Finally, the ATE test station is able to test complicated battery packs and their corresponding complex safety boards fully automatically and quickly.

Other products

ANSMANN also have a wide range of consumer and industrial standard products that include NiMH batteries and chargers, high quality torches (including the Lite-EX 60LED for hazardous areas), smartphone accessories, an extensive range of Alkaline disposable batteries, children’s nightlights, etc.  A consumer catalogue can be downloaded from here
