Azerbaijan plant explosion kills one, injures 19

An explosion at the Telemekhanika plant in the city of Shirvan, Azerbaijan, has killed one and injured a further 19, according to the Turan news agency. The Ministry of Health said one of the injured was in a critical state, six have serious burns, and nine have varying degrees of poisoning and lung damage.

The plant, owned by the country’s Defence Ministry, is 120 km from the Azerbaijani capital, Baku and employs 245.

A Defence Ministry spokesman said the explosion was caused by a short circuit, and that an investigation into the incident was underway.
