An employee at a fertiliser factory was killed and another wounded in an explosion that occurred in the town of Gemlik in Turkey's western province of Bursa early on July 19. According to the Cihan news agency, the blast took place in the plant’s steam boilers, causing a stairway and elevator system to collapse.
The injured worker was taken to the Gemlik hospital and told officials that only two people were in the factory when the explosion occurred.
Initial reports indicated that the cause of the accident was increased gas pressure in one of the boilers. The Gemlik Prosecutor's Office has initiated an investigation into the accident.
