Over the last decade, the safety and operational performance of EDF Energy's UK nuclear plants has been transformed. After years of sustained improvement, combined safety and operational results now represent the best overall performance in the past 40 years and are, in many instances, world leading. ...
EDF has threatened to cease the development of the Sizewell C nuclear power station project unless the government agrees this year to come up with a viable funding model for the proposed nuclear plant in Suffolk. The boss of the group’s UK arm, EDF Energy, had previously said the plant could be built for around 20% less than the Hinkley Point C plant currently under construction in Somerset....
In 2014, The Independent newspaper reported on an impending “nuclear crisis” in the UK. Unlike many other fears commonly associated with that expression, this was a crisis of age and the possible extinction for the country’s aging nuclear fleet. At the time, all but one of Britain’s reactors was predicted to close in 15 years....

In an interview with the Financial Times, French energy minister Ségolène Royal said she was worried at the impact the £18bn Hinkley Point C nuclear project would have on the balance sheet of state-owned utility EDF, which will make a final decision whether or not to go ahead with the project in September....
France's economy minister Emmanuel Macron told French newspaper Journal du Dimanche that the final decision whether or not EDF could build the planned £18bn nuclear station at Hinkley Point would not now be taken until September. This is the latest of many postponements in the controversial project, and casts fresh doubt over the likelihood of the plant starting up in 2025 as planned....
French state-owned energy group EDF has confirmed that its finance director has quit ahead of an expected final investment decision on the £18bn Hinkley Point C nuclear power plant in the UK. Thomas Piquemal stepped down because he feared the project could jeopardise EDF's financial position, according to reports....
