Big Chinese shale for Shell (22 March 2011)
Shell aims to spend US$1 billion a year on shale gas in China over the next five years if its exploration works currently underway prove a success. The company is drilling 17 wells in China, including for tight gas and shale gas, in regions such as southwestern Sichuan, China’s most prolific gas province, Reuters reported.

Oil giant on trial for pipeline leak in Nigeria (04 December 2009)
Oil giant Anglo-Dutch Shell and its Nigerian subsidiary went on trial before a civil court on the 3rd December 2009 for a pipeline leak in 2005, alleged to have caused vast environmental and social damage. Shell stated that the leak in July 2005 in southwest Nigeria amounted to approximately 400 barrels and had a limited impact on the environment.

Seven year maintenance contract at Stanlow refinery (18 September 2009)
Industrial services company Hertel has agreed a five plus two year maintenance contract with Shell UK covering the Stanlow refinery in Cheshire.
The contract is for maintenance services including insulation, scaffolding and painting as well as civil and mechanical engineering activities.

Nigerian militants continue to attack pipelines (10 July 2009)
Nigeria's most prominent militant group has sabotaged oil pipelines in the Niger Delta region, operated by the Anglo-Dutch oil giant Shell and the Italian group Agip, further cutting production in Africa's biggest energy producer.

Lighting upgrade cuts offshore maintenance and installation costs (31 October 2008)
Shell UK has completed an extensive lighting upgrade programme across 12 of its North Sea oil platforms, which in-volved the removal and installation of several thousand explosion-proof fluorescent lighting units, supplied by Cooper Crouse-Hinds (UK).

Shell buys into coal seam gas projects (22 July 2008)
Royal Dutch Shell will pay $739 million to buy into Arrow Energy Ltd’s coal seam gas projects in Australia, China, Indonesia, Vietnam and India. As exploration costs soar and access to conventional oil and gas reserves becomes more difficult, big energy companies are stepping up their search for new energy sources, such as coal bed methane, to feed roaring global demand.
