Monitoring energy usage more important than ever, says schneider electric (25 October 2010)
Following last weeks Spending Review, companies will no longer see financial rewards from the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme. The revenue raised by carbon allowance sales will no longer be recycled back to organisations performing well in the scheme, but will be used to support public finances including environmental schemes. The cost of allowances - currently £12 per tonne of CO2 - will in future be decided through the budget process.

IP ratings- Don’t be misled by the numbers (09 July 2010)
According to Schneider Electric a lack of understanding of IP ratings is leading to inappropriate specification of enclosures. The company also wants to advise caution as some IP ratings do not have an international meaning and are not actually relevant to their intended use.

Machine builders urged to utilise guidance when using EN954-1 (30 March 2010)
With the European Commission’s news to allow EN 954-1 to continue for a further two years, many machine builders will carry on using this standard to support compliance to the Machinery Directive, despite the introduction of EN ISO 13849-1 and EN 62061. However, Schneider Electric is warning if the standard is not used correctly, they could be wasting thousands of pounds on ‘over specification’, as well as compromising on their machines' safety.

Keeping Sellafield ponds chilled and clean (05 November 2009)
Schneider Electric has bolstered the reliability of Sellafield with the upgrade of the PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) and software which control the Ion Exchange Effluent Plant. The facility is responsible for safely carrying out the decommissioning of the UK's nuclear legacy as well as reprocessing and nuclear waste management.

EC u-turn on extension to standard (28 September 2009)
The EC has made a turnaround in its decision to extend the period in which EN 954-1 can be used. Despite their recent decision to allow machine builders to continue using the standard for a further three years, they have now withdrawn that decision and reconfirmed the original deadline of 29 December 2009, causing confusion throughout the industry.

Light curtains offer increased protection (16 September 2009)
Schneider Electric has launched two type 4 light curtains, the XUSLB and the XUSLD. Light curtains work by shielding the equipment with light beams. If one of these beams is broken, any dangerous movement of machine parts stops, protecting personnel while still allowing access to the machines should maintenance need to be carried out.

Extension to machinery directive standard (11 September 2009)
The European Commission (EC) has announced that BS EN 954-1 can be used to support compliance to the European Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC for a further three years in spite of the introduction of new replacement standards. However, Schneider Electric is urging machine builders not to delay, but to start conforming to the new standards as soon as possible.

ATEX safety switches (03 December 2008)
Schneider Electric has launched a range of safety switches. The switches are ATEX approved and are available as coded non-contact type (XCSDMC..Ex) or tongue operated type (XCSA/B/C..Ex) for detection of opening guards. Case protection is to IP66 and IP67, and with no mechanical points of entry they are ideal for washdown machinery areas.
