Emerson Process Management’s DeltaV digital automation system has been selected by Perstorp, the speciality chemicals group for the control system upgrade at its pentaerythritol processing plant in Perstorp, Sweden. The existing distributed control system will be replaced as part of a plant lifecycle management programme to ensure continued high product quality and operational efficiency for decades to come.

Wireless network enables greater reliability (14 April 2010)
Emerson Process Management has announced that Nederlandse Aardolie Maatschappij B.V. (NAM) has successfully applied Emerson's Smart Wireless technology to mobile wellhead test equipment. NAM’s Well Test Department monitors wellhead performance to ensure that output is maintained at the highest possible level.

Data improvements at natural gas facilities (28 November 2009)
Rosemount wireless transmitters have improved data delivery at three Tecpetrol natural gas compression facilities in Argentina. The sites measure venting, deliver gas data for AGA 3 calculations to balance plants, and data for fiscal accounting of sold gas.

Rosemount solution centre in Wessling, Germany (24 June 2009)
Emerson has opened a Rosemount DP Level transmitter and diaphragm seal solution centre in Wessling, Germany. The centre will provide customers in Europe with engineering, manufacturing and technical support, leveraging the existing Rosemount pressure transmitter manufacturing facility. The centre’s breadth of DP level manufacturing capabilities is extensive: from seal manufacture through to filling, using the latest laser height-check technology and fill fluid preparation techniques.

Acquisition expands upstream oil and gas automation to span from reservoir to transmission (15 May 2009)
Emerson has acquired Roxar ASA. The deal creates the world’s first integrated automation solutions company whose products span from subsea oil and gas reservoirs, to platform and floating production, to transmission, and ultimately through refining and production of goods. Roxar becomes part of Emerson Process Management, adding subsea reservoir management and production optimisation for global upstream exploration and production (E&P) customers.

Profitability improved at plastics facility (14 May 2009)
Emerson Process Management’s advanced process control specialists have developed an Adaptive Model Predictive Controller (AMPC) that is optimising production and improving profitability at Sabic Innovative Plastics’ Bergen op Zoom facility in The Netherlands. With a certain part of the process having long dead-times varying between 6 and 24 hours, standard advanced process control techniques were not effective.

Smart network switch for the DeltaV digital automation system (13 January 2009)
Emerson Process Management has unveiled a line of smart network switches specifically designed to ‘plug and play’ within a DeltaV digital system network. These switches come completely pre-configured, requiring no setup of the switching functions by the user. In addition, they help to prevent unauthorised network connections to the switch.

Emerson has acquired Bay-Tec Engineering of Napa, California, USA. Bay-Tec becomes part of Emerson Process Management, expanding Emerson’s capabilities for providing technical and management services for the consultation, design, engineering and implementation of process automation systems for the life sciences, refining, and other industries. Terms of the deal were not announced.

Bitumen pipeline stays hot during ship unloading (18 December 2008)
Emerson Process Management’s Smart Wireless solution was chosen by Terminals Pty to monitor temperatures in a 900-metre long 8-inch (200mm) heat-traced pipeline used for unloading bitumen from ships at its Geelong terminal in Australia. It is necessary to make certain the electric heaters are operating all along the pipeline to keep the bitumen hot (160
o C) and fluid.

2008 Hart plant of the year award (12 December 2008)
The Hart Communication Foundation (HCF) presented its 2008 Hart Plant of the Year Award to the PDVSA Petropiar oil refinery in Venezuela, a user of Emerson Process Management technologies. Emerson’s AMS Suite asset management software, in conjunction with Hart field instruments, enabled the widespread application of predictive diagnostics in the Petropiar refinery. Use of these technologies is credited with increasing production and reducing costs while improving profitability.

The FloBoss 107 features dynamic configuration software and an LCD touchpad to enhance ease of use. Remote monitoring of valves in the North Sea (17 November 2008)
Emerson Process Management has announced that over 1000 control valves on North Sea installations are being remotely monitored by the Solberg & Andersen and Emerson diagnostics centre in Norway. The capability to remotely diagnose and identify problems has saved costly and time consuming offshore travel, and eliminated potential plant shut downs and the resultant consequential losses.
