WorkSafe Western Australia issues safety alert after silo dust explosion 10 October 2016

A safety alert has been issued after a farmer fell eight metres from a ladder and suffered serious injuries while trying to extinguish a barley grain fire in a large grain silo. According to the WorkSafe WA alert, the farmer had climbed the external silo ladder to access the hatch on the roof. As he attempted to put out the fire by squirting water into the silo, the suspended grain dust in the silo caught fire, causing an explosion that blew off the roof.

ConAgra found liable for $108.9 million in lawsuit over fatal 2009 North Carolina plant explosion 29 March 2016

On March 25, a jury in Nebraska found US food giant ConAgra Foods responsible for the June 2009  explosion at the Slim Jim plant in Garner, North Carolina. Jacobs Engineering, a contractor at the plant, paid $108 million to settle lawsuits with affected parties after the gas explosion at the plant, which killed four and injured dozens, but the jurors have now found ConAgra liable....
