    A Bloomberg report claims that the indications are that LNG Canada, the Royal Dutch Shell Plc-led group that is considering building a huge $40-billion (US$30 billion) liquefied natural gas facility in British Columbia, will be given the go-ahead after early activity at the project’s main site at Kitimat. LNG Canada would export significant amounts of gas across the Pacific to Asia....

  • China chemical plant blast kills 19

    A series of explosions at a chemical plant in China’s Sichuan Province resulted in 19 deaths and another 12 injured on July 12. The incident occurred at the Yibin Hengda Technology facility in Jiang’an County, which is part of the Synfarm group. Investigators find metal fatigue caused fatal 2016 Airbus helicopter crash in Norway 10 July 2018

The crash of an Airbus Super Puma helicopter that killed all 13 people aboard was the result of metal fatigue in its gearbox, Norway’s Accident Investigation Board (AIBN) said in its final report into the incident published on July 5, 2018.  The crash occurred after the Super Puma’s main rotor blades separated from the helicopter as it was ferrying passengers from a Norwegian offshore oil platform to the mainland....

Government infrastructure committee says UK should scale back nuclear plans in favour of renewables 10 July 2018

Government advisers have told UK ministers to back only a single new nuclear power station after Hinkley Point C, currently under construction, because renewable energy sources are likely to prove a better investment over the next few years. Firework warehouse explosion kills 24 in Mexico 06 July 2018

On July 6 a series of explosions at a fireworks depot in Mexico killed at least 24 people and injured more than 40 others.
