16 miners missing after flood in Siberian diamond mine 04 August 2017

Rescue teams are searching for 16 workers missing in the Mir diamond mine in eastern Siberia after water flooded the shaft on August 4. The Russian state-owned operator, Alrosa, said 102 miners had been brought to the surface and another 33 miners had been located in the mine and were being evacuated. There were 151 workers underground when the accident happened....

Coal mine explosion in Ukraine kills eight 03 March 2017

On March 1, a methane explosion killed at least eight coal miners and injured six others some 550 metres underground in western Ukraine's Lviv region. Ukrainian emergency officials said about 34 miners were working in the area of the blast in Stepnaya mine in Lviv's Sokal district. Authorities rescued 20 trapped miners several hours later....

Ten feared dead in Caspian Sea after walkway collapses 15 December 2016

Azerbaijani oil officials said on December 15 that one worker has been killed and nine others were missing after part of their offshore oil installation broke off. Azerbaijan State Oil Company SOCAR reported that 10 workers were swept away after a 150-meter section of walkway fell into the Caspian Sea during 145 kph winds....
