Iowa protein plant explosion injures three

Three people were taken to hospital in a serious condition after an explosion at a protein processing plant in Iowa. The injured were involved in welding operations on a storage tank at the Proliant facility in Lytton when the explosion occurred on November 17. One is reported to have life-threatening injuries and another is in a severe condition, according to hospital sources.

The Sioux City Journal said that two people were taken to Loring Hospital in Sac City and a third to Stewart Memorial Hospital in Lake City before being transferred to an Omaha hospital.
Investigators from the Sac County Sheriff's Office and the State Fire Marshalls Office are working with Proliant management to try and determine a cause of the explosion.
On the same day, another worker suffered severe burns from an explosion and fire at Real Alloy, Coldwater, Michigan, and three workers and one firefighter were injured in a chemical fire at Weatherford Engineered Chemistry, an oil and gas company located in Leetsdale, Pennsylvania.
